The 2023 Empire Whole Health Heroes Awards:

Nominate an individual or organization committed to innovation and leadership

Criteria & Eligibility:

The individual must be employed full-time, or be in his/her current business industry, for a minimum of five years, specifically in the New York metropolitan area (includes all five NYC boroughs as well as Long Island, Westchester and Rockland counties).

Candidates are welcome to submit a nomination across all industries demonstrating how their leadership made a distinguished impact towards the wellness of New Yorkers, specific relating to any of the following criteria:

• Leading the innovation of a drug, medical treatment, or new testing procedure as it relates to asthma, cancer, diabetes, or heart health, making a difference in screening, preventing, and/or managing any of these diseases for the good of the New York City community.

• Implementing (or have established) employee wellness strategies within their organization to promote mental and overall health.

• Advancing financial health in their community. Have they demonstrated a passion in using their influence to advance their financial health within their community or for the benefit of New York’s underserved communities? This could include offering financial wellness programs to help individuals take control of their finances, reduce financial anxiety and set them on the path to better health. 

• Improving social health in their organization and their broader community. Used their influence to advance social health within their organization and broader community. This could include nominee’s charitable or philanthropic work, company sustainability efforts, etc. 

Submit a short essay (suggested 300-500 words) explaining why the individual stands out as someone who is committed to the wellness of New Yorkers, as it relates to any of the above criteria. Specifically, how did this company leader make a difference? How did her/his action(s) improve New Yorkers’ overall health and/or wellness?

Twenty-five honorees will be selected. The honorees will be celebrated at an end of the year event and featured in a special section on or around the November 6, 2023 issue of Crain's New York Business.

Judging:

The judging process will be completed on or before September 29, 2023. All eligible nominations received will be judged by a panel of Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Crain’s New York Business Content Studio representatives whose evaluations, in their sole discretion, will determine the 25 recipients of the “2023 Empire Whole Health Heroes Awards” from among the nominees under consideration.

Judging and selection of the finalists is independent of the Crain’s New York Business newsroom.

Nominations:

Nominations must be submitted via the designated online form. Mail-in nominations will not be accepted. Nominations may be submitted beginning on June 5, 2023 and must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on September 15, 2023.

Notification and Recognition:

Crain’s New York Business will notify potential honorees of the “2023 Empire Whole Health Heroes Awards” on or before September 29, 2023. Potential honorees will be required to accept the recognition to receive the Heroes Awards and abide by all rules. There will be no charge to accept the Whole Health Heroes Awards recognition.  Additionally, Crain’s New York Business will honor them during an end of the year event. Honorees will also be profiled in the print edition of Crain’s New York Business on or around November 6, 2023.

Crain’s New York Business newsroom is not involved in the judging or the selecting of the honorees.

Employees of Elevance Health, Empire and Crain’s New York Business associated with these awards, and their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and advertising and promotion agencies as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible.
